But is the Classic Update Series (TM) Wiring System Kit right for you? Ultimately, that will be for you to decide. But here are some guidelines:

- Do you want the flexibility to route your wiring the way you want?

- Do you want to hide your wiring, and need longer-than-factory wire to do so?

- Do you want original equipment style connectors and terminals for aftermarket gauges or instrument panel?

- Do you want an updated fuse block with room to add more circuits to connect other devices?

- Do you want to save money by cutting most of the wire to the length you need, crimping most of the terminals yourself, and taping the harness to suit your needs? (Detailed instructions included. Harness tape and convoluted tubing not included.)

If you've answered YES to all of the questions above, then our Classic Update Series (TM) Wiring System Kit is an option for you. But please read the information below to be certain.

Our Classic Update Series (TM) Wiring System Kit is the simplest way to update your classic vehicle's wiring. In basic terms, this system allows you to rewire your car or truck with the customized upgrades you want installed. Upgrades may include: newer steering column, H.E.I., alternator, aftermarket heater & A/C system, reproduction tail light assembly, updated gauges, etc.

Working with major equipment manufacturers such as Autometer (TM), Classic Industries (TM), Dakota Digital (TM), Stewart Warner (TM) and VDO (TM) gauge systems, Raingear (TM) wiper systems, Hot Rod Air (TM) and Vintage Air (TM) heat and air conditioning systems, Flaming River (TM), and Ididit (TM) (just to name a few), we have engineered a kit that easily interfaces with aftermarket accessories as well as reproduced original taillight, headlight, and running light assemblies. In keeping with the design of this kit, there is still complete flexibility in engine compartment and body wire routing for the custom touch. As with every Classic Update Series (TM) kit, only the best components and detailed installation instructions are utilized in building this most complete kit offered.

This system has been designed with the power capabilities necessary to run (but does not include) separate options. Some of these options may include power windows, stereo systems, air conditioning, rear window defogger, power windows, power top, cruise control, computerized fuel injection/ignition system, ABS/ride control, other computerized systems, etc.

NOTE: This wiring system is for a base-model vehicle and (unless noted) does not include the wiring for options noted above. The wiring for those options should be included by the manufacturer of those options, should you decide to add them.

Our Classic Update Series (TM) Wiring System Kits are not a fits-all system. They are custom manufactured for a specific year & model vehicle. They are a complete vehicle wiring system (front -to- rear), designed with the foresight, engineering and flexibility to bring your car's electrical system up-to-date.

This is not a plug & play system and will require some assembly on your part. Detailed instructions are included. When you install this system, YOU will determine the routing of the wires, and cut & terminate the wires to fit your needs. Installation of this wiring system will require the removal of all of your original wiring, as your original wiring will not directly connect to this system.

With the exception of some small optional harnesses, this system is a front-to-rear harness system (not individual harnesses as with our Original Design Series (TM) wiring harnesses).

This Classic Update Series (TM) Wiring System Kits are designed for upgraded/modified vehicles. Consequently, they:

- does NOT include resistance wire so they will NOT support a point-type ignition system, but can be used with an HEI or hi-performance ignition system.

- does NOT support ANY ammeters. Only voltmeters are supported. If you have an ammeter, you can convert it to a voltmeter or use an aftermarket voltmeter.

- does NOT support a stock generator, voltage regulator, or externally regulated alternator. They will only support an internally regulated Delco "SI" Series or self-exciting 1-wire alternator. Adapters are available for use with other internally regulated alternators or newer-style GM alternators, as shown in our catalog.

Note: If your goal is to restore or keep your vehicle to a factory-original configuration or to replace only a portion of your original wiring, we highly recommend our Original Design Series (TM) wiring harnesses.

Look at all the great items/features that are included in this Classic Update Series (TM) Wiring System:

- NEW compact ATO-Style fuse panel that is designed to be mounted in the same area as the original fuse panel. The fuse panel and wire connections are labeled to identify all circuits by description and their respective fuse ratings. All high amperage output circuits incorporate the same superior spring steel reinforced terminals that are used in our heavy-duty kits.

- Circuit wiring uses superior insulation wire, color coded and printed at 3 inch intervals with a circuit description. Circuits not using printed wire adhere to the original VW wire color code and stripe. All instruction sheets call out the wire function, printed circuit description, and wire gauge.

- Standard turn signal flasher, hazard flasher, and horn relay mounted on main fuse panel.

- Complete instructions on the direct connections to original Volkswagen switches such as the headlight, headlight dimmer, ignition, wiper, emergency flasher, courtesy light and turn signal. The kit is designed around currently available original or replacement switches.

- Headlight dimmer circuits are designed for either floor dimmer or turn signal stalk headlight dimming. Connections to floor dimmer or momentary headlight dimmer relay use original style terminals.

- Steering column connection to the original Volkswagen steering column turn signal switch. Turn signal connections maintain original momentary headlight dimmer and "flash to pass" functions.

- Additional turn signal and hazard flasher to accommodate LED front and rear turn signal lights.

- Instrument cluster modification of the directional indicator light to accommodate LED white or colored bulbs. Necessary for low current draw and indexing required by LED bulbs.

- Instrument cluster wiring with connections for all warning lights using original style terminal connections.

- Engine wiring includes feeds for the coil, oil pressure sender, generator (or alternator), voltage regulator, carburetor connections, starter, and optional wiring for a tachometer and engine temperature sending unit. Main power to the fuse panel is supplied through a heavy gauge feed and fusible link. All connections to components are provided with original style terminals.

- Front lighting includes extra long leads that can be routed for stock or optional appearances. All headlight, parking light, and directional light leads are provided with original style terminals.

- Rear body lighting to accommodate all bulb configurations for turn signal and braking. Circuits are designed to use either original incandescent bulbs or LED bulbs. Long length wires allow original or custom routing. Original style terminals are provided for direct connections to original tail light assemblies, license plate lights and backup lights.

- Sender lead wires are provided for electric fuel tank sender units.
