The information below will help you to make the right choice.  Basically, our wiring products are categorized into 1 of the 4 "series" shown below.   Before viewing our product catalog, decide which series of wiring is the right choice for you.  Note: Each wiring series is available for specific year/make/model vehicles.

Original Design Series™

Original Design Series Wiring HarnessesOUR MOST POPULAR! For those who are restoring your vehicle to its factory configuration. These are OEM style, factory-original reproduction harnesses and are designed to be "plug & play" - ready to install. Still Not Sure Which Wiring Series to Buy?

Original Design Series™, RestoMod Series™ or  Classic Update Series™

Here are some guidelines to help you decide if you should purchase our Original Design Series™ wiring harnesses, RestoMod Series wiring system or Classic Update Series™ wiring system. Please read ALL of the questions before deciding which wiring series is your best option.  Ultimately, the choice is yours.

Do you have a Corvette?
  • Yes = You can use either our Original Design Series™ * (all models) -or- RestoMod Series™ ** (Corvette only).
  • No = You can use either our Original Design Series™ * (all models) -or- Classic Update Series™ ** (non-Corvette).
Do you want to keep or restore your vehicle to an original factory/stock configuration, keep or restore your vehicle to a mostly-original configuration with some upgrades & modifications, or upgrade & modify ALL the wiring; as is usually done when building a fully-customized or “Resto-Mod” type vehicle?
  • Keeping all original = We recommend using our Original Design Series™ *.
  • Keeping mostly original = We recommend using our Original Design Series™ *.  Some modifications can be made by us (as listed in our catalog), some modifications may require an additional harness purchase, or all modifications may have to be made by the owner/mechanic.
  • Building a fully-customized or resto-mod type vehicle = We recommend using either our RestoMod Series™ ** (Corvette only) -or- Classic Update Series™ ** (non-Corvette).
Do you want to replace all the wiring harnesses in your vehicle, or just some of the wiring?
  • Replace all wiring = You can use either our Original Design Series™ *, -or- RestoMod Series™ **, -or- Classic Update Series™ **.
  • Replace some wiring = You must use our Original Design Series™ * (assuming you already have the remaining undamaged factory/stock wiring for your vehicle.).
Do you want to use original gauges/instrument panel without having to modify the wiring harness connections, or do you want to use aftermarket/custom gauges/instrument panel?
  • Using original gauges and/or instrument panel = We recommend using our Original Design Series™ *, -or- RestoMod Series™ **, -or- Classic Update Series™ **.
  • Using aftermarket/custom gauges and/or instrument panel = You can use either our Original Design Series™ * (with user making additional modifications as necessary), -or- RestoMod Series™ **, -or- Classic Update Series™ **.

Note: When installing some aftermarket accessories, you may be required to use proprietary connectors & terminals.  These are (usually) provided by the manufacturer of the accessory.

Do you want “plug & play” (no assembly required) wiring for faster and easier installation, or wiring that requires some assembly on your part?
  • "Plug & Play" (no assembly required) = You must use our Original Design Series™ *.
  • Some assembly required = You can use either our RestoMod Series™ ** -or- Classic Update Series™ **.
Do you plan to wire devices that were originally factory-installed options for your yr/make/model vehicle; options like:  factory air-conditioning, power top, power windows, power antenna, etc.?
  • Yes = You can separately purchase Original Design Series™ * wiring harnesses for most factory-installed options. These optional harness will simply plug into the main wiring, exactly as original. If you purchase the RestoMod Series™ ** or Classic Update Series™ ** wiring, you will have to determine how to wire most factory-installed options, and provide the wiring for those options. Many aftermarket add-ons, like VintageAir® air-conditioning, supply their own wiring.
  • No = You can use either our Original Design Series™ *, -or- RestoMod Series™ **, -or- Classic Update Series™ **.
Do you want to save some money by cutting most of the wire to the length you need, hand-crimping many of the terminals yourself, and taping/wrapping the harness to suit your needs?
  • No. I rather spend a little more and not have to do any work to the harnesses.  =  We recommend using our Original Design Series™ *.
  • Yes. I want to save some money by manually preparing the wiring.  =  You can use either our RestoMod Series™ ** -or- Classic Update Series™ ** (Note. For some vehicles, there is no savings by using our RestoMod Series™ ** -or- Classic Update Series™ wiring.).
Do you want to route your wiring as factory/stock original, or have the flexibility to route your wiring the way you want?
  • Route as-original = You can use either our Original Design Series™ *, -or- RestoMod Series™ **, -or- Classic Update Series™ **.
  • Routing flexibility = You must use our RestoMod Series™ ** -or- Classic Update Series™ **.
Do you want to hide your wiring, and require longer-than-factory/stock wire lengths to do so?
  • No = You can use either our Original Design Series™ *, -or- RestoMod Series™ **, -or- Classic Update Series™ **.
  • Yes = You must use our RestoMod Series™ ** -or- Classic Update Series™ **.
Do you require a fuse block that was the same type as factory/stock installed on your vehicle, or a fuse block with room to add more circuits to connect other devices?
  • Keeping Factory/stock = You must use our Original Design Series™ *.
  • Need more circuits = You must use our RestoMod Series™ ** -or- Classic Update Series™ **.

Note: Some RestoMod Series™ ** and Classic Update Series™ ** fuse blocks may require modification to your firewall.  Modification instructions provided (if applicable).

What is your electrical and installation skill level?
  • Beginner to Moderate = We recommend using our Original Design Series™ *.
  • Moderate to Advanced = You can use either our Original Design Series™ *, RestoMod Series™ **, -or- Classic Update Series™ **.

* Our Original Design Series™ wiring harnesses are available for many year/make/model vehicles (as shown in our catalog). These wiring harnesses are:

  • made from the original manufacturer’s blueprints, exactly as original.  This includes original: wire gauge, wire color, wire lengths, plastic connectors, metal terminals, wrapping tape, clips, etc.
  • designed to be installed and routed as original.
  • designed to be connected directly to all the original components and electrical devices.
  • individually made and sold separately (dash harness, engine harness, forward lamp harness, rear body harness, etc.). All the individual harnesses connect to one another to complete the entire wiring system for your vehicle.

** Our RestoMod Series™ and Classic Update Series™ wiring systems are only available for select year/make/model vehicles (as shown in our catalog). With the exception of some small optional harnesses, these systems are a complete bumper-to-bumper harness system.

Our RestoMod Series™ and Classic Update Series™ wiring systems are designed for a customized/modified vehicle. Consequently, these systems:

  • do not support a point-type ignition system, but can be used with a General Motors' H.E.I. (high energy ignition) or electronic ignition system.
  • do not support an ammeter, but will support a voltmeter.
  • do not support a stock generator, voltage regulator, or externally regulated alternator, but will support an internally regulated Delco "SI" Series or 1-wire alternator. Some adapters may be available for use with other internally regulated alternators. See our catalog.
  • are recommended only if you are building a mostly customized, fully-customized or retro-mod/retro-rod type of vehicle.  If your goal is to keep your vehicle to its factory-original or primarily factory-original configuration, we highly recommend that you purchase our Original Design Series™ wiring harnesses instead, then make any wiring modifications necessary to accommodate your upgrades/modifications.

Note:

  • You can not connect/combine Original Design Series™ and RestoMod Series™ wiring and Custom Update Series™ wiring. They will not connect to each other.
  • You can not connect/combine factory-original wiring and RestoMod Series™ wiring or Custom Update Series™ wiring. They will not connect to each other.
  • You can connect/combine factory original wiring and Original Design Series™ wiring for the same year/make/model vehicle.
