Battery Butler® Battery Storage / Maintenance Charger (6 & 12 volt)

Battery Butler Battery Storage Float Charger
  • Part# BBFC100 (6 & 12 volt) - $19.95

THE PROBLEM: You try to start your vehicle after it's been sitting for a few weeks or months, and your battery is completely dead.

THE SOLUTION: The Battery Butler® Storage Charger! The Battery Butler® Battery Storage/Maintenance Chargers are specifically designed for the maintenance of batteries that are stored or only used periodically. These chargers will prevent the normal self-discharge of your battery, while extending the life of rechargeable lead-acid batteries by providing a minimum current, regulated output. Other types of chargers provide a strong, rapid charge that tend to boil out liquids and decay electrodes.

With the Battery Butler® charger, once your battery has been fully charged, it will automatically shut-off; then resume charging as your battery level drops. Works on all wet cell, gel-cell, AGM (absorbed glass mat), or the new OPTIMA™ batteries. Works on the majority of car, truck and motorcycle batteries.

The Battery Butler® Battery Storage Chargers are specifically designed for long term use. You can safely leave it connected to your battery for days, weeks, months, even years! Did you know that every week your battery will lose 4% of its charge just by sitting (with no load)? Read about this and more in our F.A.Q.s.

Charger input voltage: 110VAC, 60Hz (or standard U.S. wall outlet).

Our Charger VS.  Conventional/Trickle Charger

Battery Butler® BBFC100 Battery Storage Charger
Conventional Battery Charger or Trickle Charger
Fully Automatic - Will keep your battery fully charged without over charging. The on-board microprocessor turns the charger on and off based on your battery's demands. It does so automatically, every few milliseconds.
Battery must be monitored to avoid over-charging and boiling-out battery's internal electrolyte. This is because a trickle charger does not have the electronics to regulate its voltage based on your battery's demands.
Designed for long term vehicle storage. Hook it up to your battery. Plug it into any wall outlet, and forget it (days, weeks, months...even years).
If left un-monitored, a conventional charger or trickle charger may over-charge and ruin your battery.
Works on all year/make/model vehicles with 6 volt or 12 volt batteries.
???
Includes simple to read LED charging status indicators: FLASHING RED light indicates that the charger is plugged into an outlet but is either not connected to your battery, or there is a reverse connection at your battery.  Make sure that the terminals from the charger are connected to the correct (+ or -) terminals on your battery. SOLID RED light indicates that the charge cycle has initialized and your battery is charging properly at the charger's full power output.  FLASHING GREEN light indicates that your battery is in absorption mode and more than 80% charged.  SOLID GREEN light indicates that your battery is now fully charged, and the charger is now in maintenance mode monitoring your battery.  The charger will automatically turn itself on & off as required by your battery.
Most trickle chargers do not include a status indicator and conventional chargers use hard to understand meters.
All of its electronics are integrated into one compact and space-saving power module.
???
Includes, and connects to, multiple adapters. Use the Clip Terminal Adapter (included) to temporarily connect to top post or side post battery. Use the Ring Terminal Adapter with 7.5 amp protection fuse (included) to connect to the battery of your your motorcycle, snowmobile, lawn tractor, generator, etc.. The Ring Terminal Adapter is ideal for a more permanent connection to your battery. Use the Cigarette Lighter / Power Plug Adapter (optional item, part #BBPA101) to conveniently maintain your battery through your vehicle's cigarette lighter or power plug port. Incorporates an integrated protective fuse. (For more information about part # BBPA101, see below)
Many storage chargers do not include provisions for multiple battery connections types.
When using the Battery Butler® charger, you do not need to disconnect your vehicle's battery cables from the battery. This is a BIG convenience!
Spikes from conventional battery chargers can ruin sensitive vehicle electronics. Disconnecting the vehicle's battery cables from the battery is highly recommended.
Provides a safe, regulated minimum current charge (about 3/4 amp) to your battery to maintain its peak capacity. Once your battery has fully charged, the charger's output current to your battery will stop - then resume as soon as battery level drops. On a side note... We receive many phone calls inquiring about the low amperage of our chargers. Unknowingly, some of these callers assume that more amps is better - and that our chargers are not as good as those that push 1-1/2 amps, 2 amps, 3 amps or more. Our reply is simple. Why would you push more amperage into your battery than necessary? The lower the amps and slower the rate of charge, the better and safer it is for your battery.  Please remember that the purpose of the BatteryButler® storage/maintenance charger is to safely keep your battery at peak charge over a long period of time (weeks, months, years). It is NOT designed to quickly charge your battery so you can get to work on time.
Deliver a strong, rapid charge that tends to boil-out battery liquids and decay battery electrodes. This is not good for any battery. Even a typical "trickle charger" is not designed for long-term continuous use. A typical trickle charger does not have any type of monitoring circuitry. Consequently, it can not regulate its on/off cycle or its output voltage. And often, its amperage is too high for optimal charging.
Safe for use on newer cars & trucks with computers, clocks and delicate electronics. On newer vehicles vehicles, when the engine is turned off, the vehicle's electronics typically draw a constant 15-50ma (milliamp) from the battery. The BatteryButler® Storage Charger can easily, and safely replenish this draw with its 750ma (or about 3/4 amp) output.
Other small storage/maintenance-type battery chargers deliver a charge of between 1-1/2 amps, 2 amps, 3 amps, or more. This amount of amperage is not necessary unless you need to quickly charge your battery. The higher the amperage, the less safe, and harder it is on your battery. The latest technology Optima or Optima-type battery manufacturers do not recommend charging their batteries with a float charger that outputs over 1 amp.
Charges your 12V battery at approximately 13.8-14 volts (or 6.9 volts for a 6 volt battery) as recommended by most battery manufacturers. You can check with the manufacturer of your specific battery for their recommendation.
May charge at 15 volts or higher. The higher the charging voltage, the greater the probability for battery overheating and damage.
Short-Circuit Protected. If you accidentally touch the 2 leads of this charger together, it will not damage the charger's internal circuitry.
???
These chargers are so sensitive to a drop in battery voltage that many times the green indicator light will appear to flash, as the module cycles on & off.
Sensitivity of this level can only be found on higher priced battery chargers.
Designed for use on wet-cell, sealed lead acid, maintenance-free, or AGM (absorption glass mat) batteries.  Note: OPTIMA™ Batteries use AGM technology. These batteries can be charged at normal lead-acid regulated charging voltages. For more info. go to the Optima Battery F.A.Q.
May not be recommended for use on batteries other than a wet cell type. This is because these chargers: do not automatically turn on & off, have output current higher than 1 amp.
The Battery Butler® charger can also charge deep cycle batteries. This is ideal for batteries used on boats, trolling motors, sump pump back-up systems, etc.
???
The Battery Butler® charger is designed to charge (1) battery at a time.
Other manufacturers claim that their charger is able to charge multiple batteries at the same time. This may be true. But their charger, that can maintain 2 batteries, costs $130. And the one that maintains 4 batteries costs $250!!! Let's do the math....You can buy (6) Battery Butler® BBFC100 chargers (and charge 6 batteries) for the price of 1 of the "other guys" 2-bank chargers. Simple Math = Big Savings!
You do not need to add water to your battery during non-charging periods. However, while your battery is being charged, it is always recommended that you periodically check the water level of any non-maintenance-free battery at intervals recommended by the manufacturer. You do not have to check (nor can you check) the water level of maintenance-free type batteries.
Other battery charger manufacturers infer that you don't need to check the water level of your battery. This makes no sense as your water level will drop over time as your battery is charged. If the water is not replenished to cover the internal lead plates, your battery may be ruined!
1 Year Warranty with proof of purchase from Lectric Limited. Takes the risk out of trying the Battery Butler® charger.
Many companies have no warranties on electrical devices. Other companies will only warranty their chargers for 30-90 days.
Part #BBFC100 (6 & 12 volt charger) - Only $19.95.
Chargers of this type sell for $45 or more.

Now you can conveniently charge/maintain your vehicle's battery through the cigarette lighter or power plug port. Fuse-protected (1 amp fuse) with 12" cord. Connects to the Battery Butler® storage charger (BBFC100 or BBFC200) shown above.

This adapter should only be used in a cigarette lighter port or power plug port that is NOT energized by the ignition switch. Meaning, you need a direct connection to the battery at all times. How can you tell if the port is energized by the ignition switch? With the ignition switch in the OFF position (the key out), plug a device like a cell phone charger or radar detector into the port. If the device has power, you can use that port, and this adapter, to charge and maintain your battery.

All of our chargers can safely maintain the batteries of infrequently driven vehicles, or battery-start devices such as:

  11. STORAGE/FLOAT MODE (No graphic displayed): After the battery is fully charged, the charger will automatically go into storage/float mode. During this time, the battery is automatically and constantly monitored by the circuitry in the charger. When the battery voltage drops* from its peak charge, the charger will automatically turn on and “top off” the battery voltage. (* A battery will lose its charge over a period of time. The rate at which that charge is lost will be increased on vehicles that have a clock, computer, radio display, etc. that constantly draw on the battery. This charger can more than compensate for this drain.)

Multi-Stage Cycle:

This charger operates in a 4-Stage, fully-automatic cycle.

  • 6 VOLT BATTERY: When the charger is connected to your 6V battery and plugged-in, if the battery voltage is less then 7.5V, the charger will indicate 6V mode, lock in that mode. Battery will be charged then switch to STAGE 4.
  • 12 VOLT BATTERY: If battery voltage is between 9.5-10.5V, charger will go to STAGE 1. If battery voltage is greater than 10.5V, charger will switch to STAGE 2.
STAGE 1 (Automatic Battery Rescue Mode):

This charger includes an automatic 12V battery rescue function. If battery voltage is less than 10.5V, charger will attempt to add a charge to (rescue) the battery. After a predetermined amount of time, the charger will re-check battery voltage. If battery voltage is still under 10.5V, battery will be identified as a “Bad Battery”, “Bad Battery” indicator will display, charging will stop, and the battery should be replaced. If voltage is above 10.5V, charger will switch to STAGE 2.

STAGE 2 (Constant Current Mode):

A constant current of (0.8A or 3.8A) is applied until the maximum voltage (14.4V in normal mode or 14.8V in cold weather mode) is reached. If this voltage is reached, charger automatically switches to STAGE 3.

STAGE 3 (Constant Voltage Mode):

A constant voltage is maintained while the charging current is slowly reduced. If charging current drops to 0.4A, charger switches back to STAGE 2, if not, charger switches to STAGE 4.

STAGE 4 (Storage/Float Mode):

After the battery is fully charged, the charger will automatically go into storage/float mode. This charger can more than compensate for these types of current drain.)

Car Show Judge Approved! For show car owners concerned about judging, these quick-disconnects are accepted by most, if not all, car show judges as a necessary safety feature. Some judging standards actually award points to those using our quick-disconnect switches. For example, the National Corvette Restorer's Society will award you 3 points!

The alternative of not using a disconnect switch.

  1. A vehicle in storage or not used for a prolonged period of time will drain your battery faster than if you disconnected your battery cable. This is because parasitic devices continuously draw power from your battery. Devices like: clock, radio display, computer, etc. Not to mention the interior lights that forgot to get turned off!
  2. If you work on your vehicle without disconnecting your battery, you run the risk of a short circuit, burning a wiring harness, the chance of damaging expensive electrical or computerized equipment or personal injury. Don't do it!
  3. A commercial alarm system is not only expensive, but expensive to install. And who really pays attention to those annoying, blaring alarms anyway?
  4. A commercial alarm system can be difficult to install if you do it yourself. Or expensive to install if you have someone else do it.
  5. Who wants to get out the tools, spend the time, and get dirty disconnecting their battery cable every time they park their car, work on their car, or put it in storage? Not only that, by continuously disconnecting your battery cable, you run the chance of damaging the soft-lead battery posts and cable clamps.

For maximum battery life and vehicle security, our Quick-Disconnects can be used in conjunction with our Storage Chargers. Simply connect the charger to the battery terminal side of the disconnect switch.
