Which Wiring Series is Right for You?
Re-wiring your classic car, muscle car, show car, or weekend driver can be an intimidating task. Adding to the challenge is the uncertainty of choosing the right wiring. The information below will help you make the right decision. Our wiring products are categorized into (3) different series, as shown below. Before viewing our online product catalog, determine which series of wiring is the best fit for your vehicle. Please note that each wiring series is only available for specific year, make, and model vehicles as listed in our online catalog.

Answering the questions below should give you a better idea of which of our (3) wiring series is your best option. Please read ALL of the questions before deciding. Ultimately, the choice is yours.
■ Original Design Series™ Individual Wiring Harnesses (all models)
■ RestoMod Series™ Complete Wiring System (53-76 Corvette only)
■ Classic Update Series™ Complete Wiring System (all models, except Corvette).
Do you have a 1953-76 Corvette?
Will your car/truck be all original, mostly original, or mostly customized?

- All Original = We recommend using our Original Design Series™ wiring. These wiring harnesses are made from the original manufacturer’s blueprints, exactly as (factory) original. All the individual wiring harnesses connect to one-another to complete the entire (factory) original wiring system.
- Mostly Original = We suggest using our Original Design Series™ wiring (as shown above). Some modifications can be made by us (as listed in our online catalog), some modifications may require an additional harness purchase, or all modifications may have to be made by the owner/installer. You may also use our RestoMod Series™ (53-76 Corvette), or Classic Update Series™ wiring if later you plan to do more customization that involves wiring.
- Mostly Customized (RestoMod type) = We recommend using either our RestoMod Series™, or Classic Update Series™ wiring.
Do you plan to replace all the wiring, or just some of the wiring?
- Replacing all wiring = You can use either our Original Design Series™, RestoMod Series™**, or Classic Update Series™ wiring.
- Replacing some wiring = You must use our Original Design Series™ wiring harnesses. This is assuming that you already have the remaining undamaged factory/stock wiring for your vehicle. Our RestoMod Series™** or Classic Update Series™** will not work if you only plan to replace some of your wiring, since both of these are a complete front-to-rear wiring system. That being said, there are some power options like power windows, power top, power door locks, etc. in which you can use your original wiring to connect to our Our RestoMod Series™ or Classic Update Series™ wiring systems.
** With the exception of some small optional harnesses, these systems are a complete bumper-to-bumper wiring system.
Do you want “plug & play” (no assembly required) wiring for faster and easier installation, or wiring that requires some assembly on your part?

- “Plug & Play” (no assembly required) = You must use our Original Design Series™ wiring.
- Some assembly required = You can use either our RestoMod Series™, or Classic Update Series™ wiring. Think of these systems as 80% complete, with the remainder to be completed by the installer. Installation will include trimming some of the wire, crimping some of the included terminals, installing some of the included connectors, and wrapping the harness (optional, but not included). These systems include very detailed and easy to read installation instructions.
Do you want to (possibly) save some money by cutting most of the wire to the length you need, hand-crimping some of the terminals yourself, and taping/wrapping the harness to suit your needs?
- Yes. I want to save some money by manually preparing the wiring. = You can use either our RestoMod Series™, or Classic Update Series™ wiring. (Note. For some vehicles, there is no savings by using our RestoMod Series™ or Classic Update Series™ wiring.)
- No. I would rather spend a little more and not have to do any work to the harnesses. = We recommend using our Original Design Series™ wiring.
What is your general skill level?

- Beginner = For a “plug & play” installation, we recommend our Original Design Series™ wiring harnesses. These wiring harnesses are fully assembled and only require that you route and install the harnesses as they were originally on your vehicle. No wire cutting or terminal crimping required.
- Moderate = In addition to our Original Design Series™ wiring, you should also be able to install our RestoMod Series™, or Classic Update Series™ wiring systems which require some assembly. Quality terminal crimpers (available for purchase), wire stripper and basic hand tools required. Soldering iron is highly recommended. Step-by-Step installation instructions included.
- Advanced = Same as “Moderate” skill level above.
Do you plan to use original (factory) gauges or custom (aftermarket) gauges?

- Using original/factory gauges = We suggest using our Original Design Series™ wiring. You will not have to modify the wiring harness connections.
- Using custom/aftermarket gauges and instrument panel = You can use either our Original Design Series™, RestoMod Series™ (53-76 Corvette), or Classic Update Series™ wiring. Typically, these gauges must be wired to a control box and be installed according to the manufacturer’s installation instructions. When installing some custom/aftermarket gauges, you may be required to use proprietary wiring, connectors & terminals. These are usually provided by the gauge manufacturer.
Do you plan to install a combination of aftermarket/custom products such as: Dakota Digital™, Classic Instruments™, AutoMeter™, or VDO™ gauges, Flaming River™ or Ididit™ steering column, engine swap with electronic fuel injection (EFI), or performance enhancement products?

- Yes = You might want to lean towards our RestoMod Series™ (53-76 Corvette), or Classic Update Series™ wiring.
- No = You can use either our Original Design Series™, RestoMod Series™ (53-76 Corvette), or Classic Update Series™ wiring.
Do you plan to wire devices that were originally factory-installed options for your specific vehicle; options like: factory air-conditioning, power windows, power door locks, power top, etc.?
- Yes = You can separately purchase Original Design Series™ wiring harnesses for most factory-installed options. These optional harnesses will simply plug into the main wiring, exactly as original. If you purchase the RestoMod Series™ or Classic Update Series™ wiring system, you may need to determine how to wire some factory-installed options and provide the wiring for those options. Typically, the manufacturers of aftermarket add-ons like: VintageAir® air-conditioning, Pertronix™/Mallory™ electronic ignition conversions, electronic fuel injection conversion systems, power window conversion systems, etc. should provide their own wiring.
- No = You can use either our Original Design Series™, RestoMod Series™, or Classic Update Series™.
Do you plan to retain your original charging system?

I plan to retain my original charging system = If your vehicle came with, and you plan to keep your vehicle’s:
- Generator with external voltage regulator, or
- Alternator with external voltage regulator
you must purchase the Original Design Series™** wiring harnesses. The RestoMod Series™ and Classic Update Series™ wiring system do not support a generator or externally regulated alternator.
I want to change/upgrade my charging system = If you plan to upgrade your charging system to an
- Internally regulated alternator (“SI” Series, “CS” series, or 1-wire alternator)
you can purchase the Original Design Series™** wiring harnesses, the RestoMod Series™ wiring system, or the Classic Update Series™ wiring system.
** Using an alternator conversion adapter, if available, or making the necessary modifications yourself. See our online catalog for your application.
Do you want a fuse block that was the same type as factory-installed in your vehicle, or do you need a fuse block with room to add more circuits to power additional devices?

- I want a factory/stock fuse block = You must use our Original Design Series™* wiring. Typically, this fuse block will not have the capacity to add more circuits. This fuse block will accommodate the original style (glass or plastic-type) fuses.
- I need more circuits = You must use our RestoMod Series™, or Classic Update Series™ wiring. All of our RestoMod Series™ and Classic Update Series™ wiring systems use plastic-type (not glass) fuses and include additional fused power circuits.
Note: Some RestoMod Series™ and Classic Update Series™ may require modification to your firewall to accommodate the updated bulkhead connector. If applicable, modification instructions are provided with our wiring system.
Do you need to draw more power/amperage through your wiring than what was originally designed for your vehicle?
- Yes. I need more power than what my original charging system provided. = Our RestoMod Series™ and Classic Update Series™ wiring systems are designed to handle alternators with higher-than-original amperage output. Note: It is still highly recommended to use relays for high amperage items such as radiator cooling fans, large stereo amplifiers, etc. You can also use our Original Design Series™ wiring if you run all of the higher-amperage-draw items through relays powered directly from your battery.
- No. I don’t need more power than what my original charging system provided. = You can use our Original Design Series™ wiring. The gauge of wires in our Original Design Series™ wiring was only designed by the manufacturer to handle original current loads. You can also use our RestoMod Series™, or Classic Update Series™ wiring system.

Do you want to decide how to wrap your wiring?

- No. = You must use our Original Design Series™ wiring. Harnesses will be factory-wrapped with the correct material, as-original, ready to install.
- Yes. I want to decide. = You must use either our RestoMod Series™, or Classic Update Series™ wiring system. These wiring systems will not be wrapped, giving you the flexibility to decide how you want to wrap your wiring. Harness wrapping material not included. Harness tape may be purchased from Lectric Limited in various tape widths.
Do you plan to route your wiring as factory/original, or do you need the flexibility to custom route or hide the wiring?

- Wiring routed factory/as-original = You can use either our Original Design Series™, RestoMod Series™, or Classic Update Series™ wiring.
- Wiring custom routed or hidden = You must use our RestoMod Series™, or Classic Update Series™ wiring. Many of the circuits have extra wire length to give you wire routing options and the option to hide your wiring in the engine compartment.
